Salisbury, MD – While many college students will spend part of their summer on the road this year, Salisbury University senior Amelia Hembling will spend hers behind the scenes at one of the offices that helps make that travel possible.
Through the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Fellows Internship Program, she will work with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA).
The political science major from Cockeysville, MD, will focus on her marketing minor during the internship, assisting the MVA with advertising.
In that role, she also hopes to build connections that may assist her in pursuing a digital marketing or government-related career following her expected graduation from SU next December.
“The fellowship will give me the opportunity to network and attend events in a professional setting,” she said, noting that she plans to rely on what she learned in her marketing and advertising classes at SU to bolster her work for the administration.
Through the MDOT Fellows Internship Program, interns are placed in senior-level assignments throughout the department to introduce them to the rewards and challenges of working in an integrated transportation system. The initiative is part of the Maryland Public Service Scholars Program.
