Salisbury, MD  – The City of Salisbury has been awarded a $50,000.00 Non-Capital Grant from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) to support the development of the Maryland Folklife Stage and Area at the 2025 Maryland Folk Festival.

This year’s Folklife theme, “Maryland: America in Miniature,” will create a high-quality, interactive heritage tourism experience that highlights both the cultural traditions of Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore and the diverse heritage of communities across the entire state.

The Folklife Area will showcase master artists, musicians, storytellers, and tradition-bearers who bring Maryland’s history and identity to life. Through live performances, cultural demonstrations, and hands-on activities, visitors will experience the traditions that have shaped the state—from African American storytelling to our region’s role in the nation’s semiquincentennial, and the enduring sounds of bluegrass music.

“Folklife traditions are a vital part of the celebration Maryland Folk Festival. Celebrating those traditions in all of the various mediums is a real tribute to our history. I look forward to these artists as they bring those traditions to life.” – Mayor Randolph J. Taylor

Funding will support artist and presenter fees, stage and equipment rentals, interpretive signage, and the introduction of audio storytelling features throughout the festival site.

We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to the 2025 Maryland Folk Festival, scheduled for:

  • Friday, September 19 – 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM
  • Saturday, September 20 – Noon to 9:30 PM
