Salisbury, MD — TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that Faye Banks, patient care technician in the Emergency Department (ED), has been selected as its Sunshine Award recipient for September 2025.

Banks was nominated by a coworker for her compassion, professionalism and the exceptional care she showed a recent pediatric patient:

“I would like to give accolades to Faye Banks for going above and beyond the outline of a job description. I was touched by the way she interacted with an adolescent patient who had been in the ER for over five days. During this patient’s stay, I often saw them sitting in the doorway of their room, signing and talking to themself and/or anyone who passed by.

On Aug. 12, Faye was assigned as this patient’s sitter. From my observation, Faye exhibited an engaging stance by immediately introducing herself in a nurturing manner. Rather than leave the patient in the assigned room, she took the patient for a tour of the ER, explaining in layman’s terms the mechanics.

Faye walked with this patient in such an encouraging way that the child was extremely receptive; one could see them smiling and so willing to learn something new. I heard the patient ask questions about the ER process, how people arrive, what the team members do, where the patients go, etc. I am sure Faye left a lasting impression.

In addition, the patient was packed and ready to be discharged to the care of their father. Unfortunately, this did not occur. Rather than leave the patient dejected, Faye continued to accompany them throughout the day. Out of her own pocket, Faye even bought the patient lunch and a piece of cake!

In my years of experience, Faye is one of those rare individuals who will joyfully go above and beyond the call of duty and exhibits a wealth of process knowledge. There is no job too small or too large for her.

During her daily duties, she is pulled in many different directions, is constantly summoned via intercom to report to an area within the ER by team members who need guidance, help or product. I find her to be immediately responsive to anyone who solicits her. She explains intricacies that aren’t mentioned during onboarding, such as who’s who in a specific area and who to address if a need exists, such as something clerical, to introductions with unit administration. She has been assigned one-on-one training, is observant of low stock in storerooms/trauma rooms and goes down to Central Stores to secure whatever is needed whenever it is needed. Many times, it is large volumes of product.

In addition to her daily duties, Faye has also been assigned summer volunteers. I have witnessed her exhibit care to encourage their development and growth in the medical field. I have also personally observed her huddling with the group of adolescents explaining the hospital ER processes and the importance of what this organization does to support medical needs. She is constantly being summoned by team members who need help, product, or direction of some sort.

Not only is Faye an asset, but it is also evident that she has never met a stranger. Her talents are immeasurable. I would like to shout hats off for a job well done.”

Banks was honored in a ceremony before her coworkers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin and a certificate recognizing her exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
