Poet Emmy Pérez to read for Wor-Wic

Wor-Wic Community College is inviting the public to a free virtual reading by Emmy Pérez, author of poetry collections “With the River on Our Face,” “Solstice,” “Boxes With Zero Tolerance” and “Paper America” on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m., via Zoom. The college will also hold a live watch party in room 200 of the Hazel Center on the Wor-Wic campus.

Pérez is a former poet laureate of Texas and a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Academy of American Poets and United States Artists, among others. She cofounded the Women Writers Collective of El Paso and Poets Against Walls. She is a professor of creative writing at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The event is part of the Echoes & Visions literary series and Wor-Wic’s Fall Festival: A Celebration of Arts, Community and Connections. It is free and open to the public. Visit the events section of www.worwic.edu for more information and the Zoom link.
