Salisbury, MD – Dr. Pranay Rana, a Nepali Army veteran and scholar and practitioner of conflict resolution and peace, discusses the ongoing peace process in Nepal during the lecture “Integration and Transitional Justice in the Ongoing Nepali Peace Process” 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, in Room 119 of Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall. The event was postponed from its original date on Monday, September 25.

Rana has 21 years of experience in the field, working with the security forces, federal/local-level agencies, NGOs and INGOs, and academia. He was a candidate for the House of Representatives from Kathmandu-5 in the 2020 general election in Nepal.

He discusses the implementation of the post-conflict peace agreement as it relates to integrating Maoist rebels into the Nepali Army. His lecture highlights some of the functional elements of the rebel-military integration program. This process may be jeopardized by contentious issues arising from transitional justice amendments that contradict international human rights law and threaten the momentum Nepal is making toward a stable society.

Sponsored by SU’s Bosserman Center for Conflict Resolution, admission is free and the public is invited.
