Chesapeake Health Care (CHC), a leading Federally Qualified Health Center serving patients across Maryland’s lower Eastern Shore, announced today that Chief Medical Officer Dr. B. Lee Jennings retired on May 29, 2026.
During his 35 years providing obstetric and gynecologic care at Chesapeake Health Care, including nearly a decade as chief medical officer, Dr. Jennings played a pivotal role in strengthening CHC’s clinical leadership and recruiting a diverse and highly skilled team of providers.
CHC is pleased to announce that Dr. Sara M. Haverty has been named chief medical officer, succeeding Dr. Jennings. Dr. Haverty is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist based in Salisbury, Maryland, with more than 29 years of experience in the medical field. She brings extensive expertise in gynecologic conditions and gynecologic neoplasms. Dr. Haverty earned her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1997 and completed her residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
“We are grateful to Dr. Jennings for his years of leadership and commitment to our patients and staff,” said Brian Holland, chief executive officer of Chesapeake Health Care. “Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Dr. Sara Haverty as our new chief medical officer. We look forward to working alongside her to lead our medical, dental, and behavioral health teams, shape our clinical vision, and enhance outcomes for those we serve. We are confident that under her leadership, we will continue to innovate, grow, and deliver outstanding care. She has been a great addition to the management team and will be a valuable resource for our provider teams and departments. We wish her much success in her new role.”
“I am honored to step into this role and grateful for the opportunity to serve in this new capacity,” said Dr. Haverty. “I am excited to join the leadership team and work alongside our dedicated providers and staff to continue advancing high-quality, patient-centered care for the communities we serve.”
As chief medical officer, Dr. Haverty will oversee CHC’s clinical operations, support providers across all service lines, and guide the organization’s continued focus on quality, access, and patient-centered care.
