City Council Vice President, Laura Mitchell has begun her term as Treasurer of the Maryland Municipal League’s (MML) Executive Committee for FY16. Mrs. Mitchell was elected to the position by the MML membership on July 1st, 2015.
Mitchell has previously served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the Eastern Shore Association of Municipalities (ESAM) – one of nine chapters of the Maryland Municipal League. The chapters exist to facilitate communications and cooperation between MML, local municipalities, and other levels of state and local government. Encompassing nearly a third of the 157 municipalities served by MML, the ESAM chapter membership is comprised of 51 municipalities from across Maryland’s eastern shore.
In the past, Mitchell has served on MML’s Legislative and Communications committees, and its Board of Directors. In addition to her duties as Treasurer of the Executive Committee, this year she will also serve on the Convention Planning Committee.
“The Maryland Municipal League provides valuable training, support and research to municipal officials across the state, and advocates for our interests in Annapolis,” said Vice President Mitchell. “Over the last four years, MML has given me the knowledge and insights to be a better council person. I learned a great deal while serving on the Legislative and Communications Committees, and the Board of Directors as the District Vice President. Now, I am truly honored to be elected by my peers to serve on the Executive Board and to have this opportunity to give back, to help other municipal officials in the same way.”
The first meeting of MML’s Executive Board for FY16 will take place Wednesday, August 26th.
