The employees of Wicomico County, MD will make a check presentation to the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore today at 1pm in the Council Chambers of the Government Office Building. In support of the United Way campaign, County employees will present Kacey Decker, United Way Donor Relations Coordinator, Pamela Gregory, United Way Community Impact Manager and United Way Board Member, Jan Perdue with a check in the amount of$17,626 – the highest amount ever donated by the County.

The United Way’s theme this year is, “It takes one person to change a life. Be the one.” Through a wonderful team effort, totals for 2014 also shattered the County’s record for the highest number of donors and most new donors of any campaign. And for the second year in a row, the Department of Corrections team out-raised all other departments donating more than $7400 – a $2400 increase over last year.

“Wicomico County government is a prime example of ‘Living United’ in our community and this year’s increase in giving is a reflection of the compassion and generosity of the County employees.  We are truly grateful to have their continued support in helping our local United Way provide much needed assistance to our neighbors in need all year round,” said Kathleen Mommé, Executive Director. According to the United Way, outside of government, the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore is the biggest supporter of services in our community.

Wicomico County employees make giving back a priority in many ways including building wheelchair ramps, hanging dry wall in homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy, participating in walk-a-thons and mentoring local youth. The United Way campaign is another option that allows employees to contribute even more to their communities through payroll deduction.

“As always, I’m so proud of the generosity and spirit of community displayed by our family of county employees,” County Executive Rick Pollitt said, “Even during these tough economic times, when most of us are challenged to make ends meet, our employees step right up and share their blessings with the greater community.  We realize that the United Way has the power to change lives for the better and we enthusiastically join the team!”
