Fisher Architecture LLC in partnership with Habitat for Humanity broke ground on Monday, March 16, 2015 on the 61st home in Wicomico County to be built in conjunction with Habitat. The home is located at 200 Naylor Street in Salisbury.
Fisher, a locally owned and experienced architectural firm, has donated the design for the home. The design will allow builders to take advantage of efficient construction practices and provide an opportunity for the family to easily maintain the home for years to come. This is the third design Fisher has donated to a Habitat build.
Fisher provides functional design and construction solutions to clients and representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County.
Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Wayne and Susie Zickafoose and their grandson Kevin will be moving in to the home once completed, and attended the groundbreaking.
Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County schedules builds every Friday and Saturday. Families must apply for a home and meet Habitat criteria and come up with the closing costs before becoming eligible for a home. They must also put in 300 sweat equity hours of service. Habitat approximates 2,000 volunteer hours go into building each house.
