Greater Salisbury Committee Executive Director to Speak at Rotary Meeting

The Rotary Club of Salisbury is pleased to welcome to its Thursday, July17 meeting Jan Wiseman, Executive Director of the Greater Salisbury Committee (GSC).  His presentation is, “Opportunities and Challenges for the Greater Salisbury Area.”

Wiseman has been executive director of GSC since 2002 when he came here from a senior leadership position at the American Soybean Association in St. Louis. That trade association had offices in 11 countries.

His more than 25 years of association and business‐related leadership include Executive Vice President positions with the Apartment Association of Metro Denver, the Professional Insurance Agents of Colorado, the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and he was the President and owner of the Professional Development Institutes. He was also Staff Vice President for the Farm and Land Institute (now the Realtors Land Institute) of the National Association of Realtors.

As a college dean for 12 years in Illinois, Wiseman created and developed distance learning centers and community‐based education that accounted for more than 50% of the college’s enrollment, and received several national and state awards for innovation and quality.

Wiseman was also a professional journalist, serving as an editor at newspapers in Rockford, Illinois and Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Recently, he was awarded the Presidential Medal by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for his leadership in area economic development in growing the Mid‐Atlantic Regional Spaceport and for assisting in bringing critical new professional degree programs to the university.

Wiseman received a bachelor’s degree in journalism/sciences from the University of Wisconsin‐Madison; and both a master’s in journalism and education, and a CAS degree in adult education from Northern Illinois University, plus the certified association executive professional designation from the American Society of Association Executives in Washington, DC, and served on their national organizational review team.
