Salisbury, MD — HFHWC held a groundbreaking event on Monday, October 23 to launch the public phase of their fundraising campaign for their new administrative offices and second ReStore location. Dignitaries, donors, board members, and staff celebrated the renovation of the 8200 sq. ft building in Fruitland, MD.

Habitat purchased the building in October, 2022 through assistance from major supporters, including the Richard A. Henson Foundation, The Perdue Family, and the Rural Maryland Council. The groundbreaking celebrated Habitat’s commitment to its new home in Fruitland, and reaching $1.3 million of its $1.8 million fundraising goal.

This building reflects Wicomico Habitat’s commitment to expanding its affordable homeownership, critical home repair, and veterans build programs in Wicomico and Somerset Counties. Naming opportunities are still available for investors who wish to leave a legacy or honor someone special through philanthropic giving.

HFHWC expects to occupy this new building by April 2024. The ReStore location on W. Isabella Street will remain open, and expand into the former administrative offices, giving patrons a larger shopping experience.

About Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County

Habitat for Humanity works to make homeownership of decent, affordable homes a matter of conscience and action. Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County was founded in 1987; since then the affiliate has built and sold 74 homes locally. Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent homes with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat homes are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, low-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments come back to the affiliate to help build more homes for more families.
