Kirsten Strohmer, vice president of business development at The Henker Group, was recently appointed as a committee member of the Maryland-Anhui Province, China Sister State Relationship. The committee is under the Department of International Affairs at the Office of the Secretary of State of Maryland. As a committee member, Strohmer will be representing the Eastern Shore of Maryland and contribute to the growth of the Maryland-Anhui partnership.
The Maryland Sister States Program is a collective name for Maryland’s eighteen official sister state relationships that have been established with states, regions, or provinces in various countries around the world. Maryland’s sister relationship with Anhui Province, China is the longest standing partnership of 35 years. The purpose of these relationships is to promote and grow cultural, business, and educational exchanges.
“The Maryland-Anhui Sister State Committee is pleased to have Ms. Strohmer on board as one of our newest members. Her experience with international exchange on the Eastern Shore is an example of her commitment to citizen diplomacy,” said Bob Zhang, chair of the Maryland-Anhui committee. As a member, Strohmer takes part in the quarterly business subcommittee meetings to discuss current progress and future endeavors of the Maryland-Anhui Sister State partnership.
President of The Henker Group, Mary Ann Henker, said, “As a creative agency we continuously must push creative boundaries to produce exceptional and forward-thinking work. It’s important to me that all staff are committed community volunteers and also participate in such high-level groups like the Sister State partnership. These experiences support “creatives” with non-traditional professional development opportunities that provide exposure to new ways of thinking, new creative outlets, and to think globally. For Kirsten personally, I am thrilled for her that she has been given this opportunity!”
Strohmer is a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and received her Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Languages and Literatures from the University of Maryland, College Park. She continued to hone her Chinese-speaking skills by studying abroad at the American Institute in Taiwan. Prior to transitioning into a career in sales and marketing, she was a language analyst for the Department of Defense. As the vice president of business development at The Henker Group, she executes strategic initiatives for the company; develops relationships with like-minded businesses, organizations, and vendors; and supports various aspects of branding and rebranding projects.
