Jami McGonigle, R.N., B.S.N. promoted to Assistant Director of Nursing;
Roberta Walter, R.N. tapped to coordinate new Restorative Nursing Program
McCready Health, the leading health care provider in Somerset County, today announced that it has hired Amber Sterling, R.N. to serve as Director of Nursing for the Alice B. Tawes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Tawes.) In addition, two nurses have been promoted at the facility: Jami McGonigle, R.N., B.S.N, was named Assistant Director of Nursing, and Roberta Walter, R.N., has been promoted to oversee the Restorative Nursing program.
“The nursing and rehabilitation environment is ever-evolving, and it is imperative we attract and retain nurses who can move our program forward in the service of caring for and healing our residents,” said Novella Bozman, Nursing Administrator at Tawes. “All three of these women are tremendous assets to our program and the community.”
Sterling began her career at McCready Health in 2003 as a geriatric nursing assistant (GNA) and quickly progressed to a position of floor nurse when she earned her licensed practical nurse (LPN) certification. In 2012, she became a registered nurse (R.N.) having completed her Associates of Nursing at Wor-Wic Community College. After spending two years at Aurora Senior Living in Princess Anne, she chose to “come home to Tawes to serve on a strong team that offers great opportunities and the ability to be a part of a tight-knit community.” Having grown up in Rumbly, Md., she now lives with her husband and four children in Shelltown, Md.
McGonigle moved to the area from West Chester, Penn., where she had trained and worked as a phlebotomist. She began working as an R.N. at Tawes in 2015. In January of this year she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wilmington University. Now living in Crisfield with her partner and two sons, she “appreciates the close, family relationship at between the patients and staff at Tawes, and the safe and outdoors environment that country life offers.”
Walter joined Tawes in 2011 after graduating from Wor-Wic Community College with an Associate Nursing Degree. At the start of this year she began coordinating the Restorative Nursing Program. This program utilizes interventions to promote each resident’s ability to live as independently and safely as possible. Restorative nursing is often initiated once skilled therapy has ended, but it is also available to long term care residents to help them maintain their highest level of function. Walter resides in Marion with her husband and one-year old son.
The Alice B. Tawes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is Somerset County’s only not-for-profit facility of its kind.
