Salisbury, MD – Megan Outten has officially begun her Salisbury City Council campaign. The current appointed District 3 representative shares her experience serving on the City Council, along with what inspired her to public service and her commitment to being a voice for residents across the city.

In March of 2023, Megan was appointed to replace Councilman Jack Heath as the Salisbury City Council Representative for District 3. During that time she has been a vocal voice on the council, advocating for responsible spending at the City, and demanding transparency and improved communication for residents on city initiatives.

“For the past several months, I have had the honor of serving as the appointed representative for this district.”, said Outten. “I’ve been able to work directly on the issues facing my community, and that opportunity is something many candidates running for office don’t get to have.”

Most recently, Megan was able to work with City Officials to address the changes made to Camden Ave and South Blvd light, which had become a major safety concern in her district. She has also expanded opportunities to connect with residents by offering her own open office hours on the third Saturday of every month at Rise Up’s E. College Avenue location.

“Community connection is one of my top priorities,” said Outten. “Strong communities come from strong collaboration. I’ve worked hard to stay engaged with my district and I’m going to continue doing so.”

Megan was born and raised in Wicomico County. Her family has a long history of service to the community. Her father currently serves as the Fruitland Chamber of Commerce President and her great-grandfather, Howard Outten, served on the Fruitland City Council for more than 15 years. Answering her own call to public service early on, Megan has held a variety of roles in the community before making history as the youngest woman to hold office at the City of Salisbury at 30 years old.

“My family has a long history of service to this community, and I am honored to have been appointed to Salisbury’s 3rd District,” said Outten. “I’m ready to step up and continue serving my community.”

Megan is a graduate of Parkside High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in Communications from Salisbury University. For the last six years she has worked in the renewable energy sector, advancing workforce development opportunities and energy independence across Maryland. Megan is an active member of the community – currently serving as a member of the Wicomico County Commission on Women, a Kindness Commissioner for Kind Sby, and as an active member of Salisbury’s Sustainability Committee.
