On October 24, Pet’s ER, a cat and dog emergency hospital, opened its doors at a new location at 402 Punkin Court, in Salisbury. The new facility came as an upgrade from their previous location, on Tilghman Road, next to Oak Hill Baptist Church. The business commemorated the event with a ribbon cutting with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.
Owner, veterinarian Dr. Elizabeth Drewer gave an emotional thanks to the attendees and her collaborators.
“Thank you everybody for coming. I can’t even believe that we’re opening in this big, giant facility. When I first started, I was hoping I wasn’t going to end up in my parents’ basement. We’ve tripled in numbers and we’ve been very, very fortunate, because of all of the wonderful support from the public and all of the local veterinarians who use us.”
Drewer also thanked the construction management and general contracting firm Gillis Gilkerson and their project manager Mike Truitt, for making the facility a reality, as well as Provident State Bank for their financial assistance.
Most the Pet’s ER staff was present, and Drewer affectionately recognized them, as well as her parents.
“I also want to thank all of my employees and all of my other doctors, because for one thing, this place would not have been set up for tonight, because I was a train-wreck yesterday and this morning and I actually can’t quite believe that it looks like this right now. I also want to thank my parents for all their support. Mary Jane, my office manager, has done an unbelievable [job]; I didn’t have to worry about anything because she took care of everything. And I want to thank my dad because he came out every day, so I didn’t have to worry about anything.”
The event was concluded with a presentation of a citation from the Maryland State Senate by a representative of the office of Senator Jim Mathias.
Pet’s ER is a full-service animal hospital that is only open during nights, weekends, and holidays. They offer a number of medical treatments including: diagnostic and therapeutic services, surgical services, anesthesia, radiology services, electrocardiography services, dietary counseling, and have a laboratory and pharmacy on-site.
