Join the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University and Wicomico County Tourism, as they welcome internationally renowned landscape photographer and environmentalist Clyde Butcher, keynote speaker of the fourth Annual Art in Nature Photo Festival. Butcher’s keynote address takes place Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center from 7 – 9 p.m. followed by a question and answer period and book signing from 9 – 10 p.m.

Keynote attendees will be entranced by Butcher’s story of what catches his eye, his planning and timing, as well as the logistics—including which large-format camera to use—for capturing the essence of nature or a particular location. But that’s just the beginning; from spending hours waiting for just the right light to capture hundreds of photographs, choosing the negative, working in the darkroom and the daunting process of developing the negative so it eventually emerges into the stunning image that embodies the spirit of its subject.

Emmy-winning filmmaker, Ken Burns likens Butcher to the great Ansel Adams. “Like the work of Ansel Adams, Clyde Butcher’s remarkable photographs give us an access to nature we rarely see or experience. They not only reveal the intimate and majestic beauty of the Everglades – and the need to save this fragile environment – they also remind us of the abiding kinship we mortals share when we work together to preserve these magnificent places. Butcher’s art is a national treasure.”

Among Butcher’s many awards are Florida’s Artist Hall of Fame Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the North American Nature Photography Association, and The Sierra Club’s Ansel Adams Conservation Award.

Made possible through a partnership with Wicomico County Tourism, attendees will have an opportunity to take advantage of hotel packages customized for the event. Hotel packages include one or more of the following: discounted hotel rooms; Clyde Butcher’s books, DVD’s and calendars; keynote admission tickets; Art in Nature Photo Festival event wristbands; and photography portfolio reviews.
