Salisbury, MD – The MAC gym is back open for business, and is bigger and better than ever!  MAC, Inc. and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a ribbon cutting on February 19th celebrating this fantastic new gym.

SACC members and a hearty group of gym members joined the celebration, and were welcomed by CEO, Paula Erdie, Board Chair Vivian Koroknay, and Gym Manager Mike Hedlesky, as they explained all that this new gym is offering.

Following a months-long expansion and renovation project, MAC’s Richard A. Henson Wellness Center gym is once again bustling with activity as members engage in fitness classes, personal training and enjoy exercising on the various pieces of equipment.

New equipment includes four state-of-the-art treadmills, leg press, leg extension/leg curl machine and cable column. The main gym area and the yoga studio were both expanded.

The gym is a judgment-free zone, where older adults can comfortably exercise to improve their health. Research shows that there are significant benefits for older adults who exercise regularly, including:

  • Reduced risk of heart disease
  • Reduced risk of falls
  • Increased likelihood to remain independent as they age
  • Reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation, particularly in group exercise settings

The gym program offers a variety of fitness classes, including one designed especially to meet the special needs of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease, such as balance and strength; their caregivers also are welcome. Other offerings: yoga, and classes that address flexibility, balance, strength, range of motion and cardiovascular fitness. Most classes also are available via Zoom.

On the business side, gym membership is pay-as-you-go – there are no contracts to sign.  Gym hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  It is open to anyone age 50 or older, or any adult with a disability.
