Members of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services (SNHS) staff, clients and many community members gathered on March 27, 2019 for a ribbon cutting to celebrate SNHS’ 25th anniversary.
Incorporated in 1994 with the vision of increasing homeownership in the City of Salisbury, SNHS is a non-profit organization devoted to cultivating sustainable neighborhoods with partnerships and lending that inspire self-reliance, growth and optimism. Over 25 years, SNHS has continued to reinvent itself according to local needs.
The ribbon cutting ceremony included Proclamations from Mayor Jake Day, Melissa Kelly, on behalf of U. S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, and Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver, who proclaimed the 27th day of March, 2019 as “Salisbury Neighborhood Services, Inc. Day.” The impressive tributes acknowledged Cheryl Meadows for her tireless dedication and leadership as SNHS Executive Director. In her remarks, Meadows was quick to credit the commitment and talent of a dedicated staff and Board of Directors as vital to their success.
SNHS was also lauded by representatives from NeighborWorks America, a public nonprofit organization created by Congress more than 40 years ago to expand opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities. In addition to providing grant funding, training and technical assistance, NeighborWorks America holds its network organizations to high performance standards and provides rigorous oversight and annual assessments.
SNHS has been a member of NeighborWorks America since 1995 and is considered an exemplary organization that currently meets all NeighborWorks America’s rigorous oversight standards.
