More 150 Year Celebration events coming up at Wicomico County Fair
After growing their beards for more than two months, the competitors in the fastest growing beard category of Wicomico County’s Brothers of the Brush contest are now about two-thirds of the way to the finish.
The Brothers of the Brush facial hair growing contest is being held as part of Wicomico County’s 150 Year Celebration. A beard growing contest was also held for the County’s centennial in 1967.
The men competing in the fastest growing beard category of this year’s contest had to be clean-shaven on or after June 3. Judging will take place in conjunction with 3rd Friday in downtown Salisbury on Friday, Sept. 15.
There’s still time to sign up for the Brothers of the Brush contest, and there are five other categories that don’t require shaving: moustache, partial beard, full beard, most unusual and worst beard. Registration forms for the competition must be received by Friday, Sept. 1.
Competitors have a chance to win sesquicentennial prizes and trophies, and it is free to participate.
Brothers of the Brush participants are just one of the groups that will take part in the Parade of Towns at the Wicomico County Fair, which is set for 1:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, along Blue Ribbon Road by WinterPlace Park. Different municipalities and high school bands will also be represented in this event, which is being held as part of Wicomico County’s 150 Year Celebration.
On Friday, Aug. 18, Wicomico County presents country music recording artist Jimmy Charles for a 7 p.m. show at the Wicomico County Fair. The fair is held at WinterPlace Park.
Throughout the fair, which runs from Aug. 18-20, a Historic Village will be open, where people can learn about the County’s historic attractions.
